Al'chemy Vitamin Masque

My hair has really been suffering with the cold weather recently so I've been testing out hair masks and deep conditioning treatments, trying to find something that will help to repair my hair and get it back into a manageable condition. It was great timing that I was sent Al'chemy's Ginkgo and Jojoba Intensive Moisture Vitamin Masque to test and review.

Here's what Al'chemy has to say: Gingko and Jojoba intensive moisture vitamin masque for hair that needs extra care. Richly nourishing and protecting ingredients such as pure Australian jojoba and certified organic avocado oils combine with gingko and white tea, vitamins E and B5, rice amino acids and wheat protein to help restore hair moisture, flexibility, strength and maintain colours and perms. Your hair will look shiny, healthy and feel more smooth and manageable.

I've been using this for about six weeks now and I'm really happy with it. I use it in place of my regular conditioner and it leaves my hair healthy, hydrated and soft. I've also been using it as a leave in conditioner and as a treatment for split ends. To use it as a leave in conditioner I just mix some with water in a spray bottle and spray it onto my hair. To use it on my split ends I just rub a small amount between my hands and rub it into the ends of my hair.

Another thing I love about Vitamin Masque is the philosophy of the company. Al'chemy and A'kin products are made by The Purist Company. Purist is an Australian company based near Sydney. The products are ingredient-rich, vegan, 100% natural botanical aromatherapy and formulated without animal ingredients or animal testing. They are free from parabens, mineral oils, silicones, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, artificial colours, propylene glycol, phthalates, DEA (MEA, TEA), ethoxylated and petrochemical cleansers .

Would I buy this? Yes, it's effective, natural and smells great!

Ingredients: aqua, behentrimonium methosulfate, cetearyl alcohol, panthenol, simmondsia chinensis seed oil, lauryl lgucoside, hydrolyzed wheat protein, sorbitol, glycerin, rice amino acids, glyceryl laurate, persia gratissima oil, tocopheryl acetate, potassium sorbate, sodium gluconate, citric acid, squalane, maltodextrin and gingko biloba extract, maltodextrin and camellia sisensis leaf extract, pelargonium graveolens flower oil, lecithin and tocopherol and ascorbyl palmitate and hydrogenated palm glycerides citrate, pogostemon cablin oil, fusanus spicatus wood oil, elettaria cardomomum seed oil, syzygium aromaticum flower oil.

Kiehl's in Perth!

Yesterday, to my great delight, I discovered that a Kiehl's counter has opened at David Jones in Perth City. They have the full range of Kiehl's products, lovely staff and lots of samples. The counter opened yesterday, so if you are in the city head into DJ's and take a look.

I spent about 15 minutes there with one of the lovely staff who walked me through the entire product range. I hadn't realised they made so many lovely products. They even have an acai line that's certified organic. Whilst I didn't buy anything yesterday I'll definitely be heading back there in the near future.

Whilst I was at David Jones I noticed that the whole beauty section is getting a makeover. I'm excited to see if they will be getting any more new brands.

Post and Shame Challenge Update

I'm not even half way through the last eye liner that I'm trying to use up, even though I've been using it every day. Looks like I'll have to start wearing lots of heavy liner for a while until I start making progress with using this pencil up. I'll be very glad when this challenge is over, not because I particularly want to buy any new lip balms or eye liners, I'm just sick of using the same one every day.

This month I got rid of my Lush Let Them Eat Cake lip balm because I really didn't like it. I also finished my Kit lip balm. And not surprisingly I haven't finished another eyeliner.

This means my tally is now ten finished lip balms, eight lip balms given away or throw out and three finished eye liners.

Palmer's Gentle Daily Cleanser

Palmer's is one of my favorite brands because their products smell amazing and they work. They make of one of my favorite body moisturisers and have recently revamped and released a facial care range. I purchased the Gentle Daily Cleanser, Line Smoothing Eye Cream and Gentle Exfoliating Facial Scrub from the range and have been using the cleanser and scrub for the past few months. I gave the eye cream to Mr GQ to test out, so his review will be coming soon. I also purchased two of the Nourishing Hand Washes in Shea and Cocoa Butter. The hand washes are sulfate free so great for people with sensitive skin.

Today's review is for the Gentle Daily Cleanser. I've used a whole tube of this and am now onto my second tube. If you hadn't already guessed, I really like this cleanser, it's lovely. It effectively cleans without stripping or irritating my skin. In fact it does what it says, it gently cleans my skin. I can even use this on my eyes with no problems.

It has a very light white lily scent and I also detect a slight hint of chocolate (but that could be my imagination as I expect all Palmer's products to smell like chocolate).

Texture wise this is quite a thick, creamy cleanser. Despite the texture it goes on lightly and completely washes off. Once I've washed it off there is no residue and my face feels comfortable and normal, not tight or squeaky clean (I hate the squeaky clean feeling).

Gentle Daily Cleanser is very reasonably priced. It costs $9.99 (AUD) for a 150 gram tube, however you can often find it on sale for around $8.00 (AUD). I was recently sent the day cream and night cream to test out so I'll be reviewing them soon too.

Garnier Anti-Dark Circles Roll-On and Giveaway

Dark circles are the bane of my life. I've had them for years and can't get rid of them. Because of this I'm always on the hunt for an effective concealer. I've found some amazing ones but am always happy to try new ones. When I saw that Garnier had released a roll on concealer I had to get it.
Anti Dark Circles Roll On comes in two colours, light to medium and medium to dark. In the picture above light to medium is the top colour and medium to dark is the bottom colour.

Here's what Garnier has to say:

Is Garnier anti dark circles roll on right for me?
Yes, if dark circles regularly appear under your eyes and a basic eye cream is no longer enough to refresh your tired appearance. You are looking for an immediate solution to correct your dark circles.
How is it different?
Garnier has created anti dark circles roll on, our first massaging roll on which combines an anti dark circles moisturiser enriched with natural ingredients, with an long lasting tinted concealer for instant coverage. This formula, combined with the massaging roller-ball, provides a complete solution for dark circles and tired eyes.
How does it work?
The refreshing roll-on provides a double action against dark circles:
Instant coverage: concentrated in mineral pigments, the formula ensures extensive coverage of dark circles. Long lasting, it naturally conceals your dark circles thanks to its natural tone.
Anti-fatigue effect: enriched with caffeine, known for it's stimulating properties, and lemon essence, known for its clarifying properties, the hydrating formula combined with the massage boost reduces the signs of fatigue.
Contains sunscreen.
Visible effectiveness: Immediately dark circles are concealed, their intensity and visibility are reduced. The eye contour is more radiant, hydrated and smoother.
I can happily say that I agree with all of the statements made by Garnier. Anti-Dark Circles concealer hydrates my eye area and covers my dark circles. As my dark circles are very dark I apply two layers. The great thing about this is that as it's so light I can reapply it throughout the day without it looking cakey or sinking into my fine lines.
I have dry skin so use an eye cream underneath Anti-Dark Circles, however for people who don't have dry skin I think this would be hydrating enough on it's own. The roller ball is a great, easy way to apply the concealer. I just roll it on, leave it to settle for about 30 seconds then pat in the excess concealer and I'm done.

Would I buy this again? Yes!

And now for the giveaway part. I have two Medium to Dark concealers to give away. One is brand new and still in the box and the other I used for the swatches above. If you'd like to win one, just subscribe to my blog and leave a comment letting me know you'd like to enter the competition. The winner will be picked randomly and the competition closes on 12 July.

Neutrogena Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover

For a while there I didn't bother with eye make-up remover, I'd just use my regular cleanser on my eyes. I've now decided that it's better to use an eye make-up remover as it's more gentle.

When I first started using Neutrogena's Oil Free eye make-up remover I didn't like it because it felt quite oily. Strange, considering it's oil free. Then I read the back of the bottle and realised that it's a dual-phase product so needs to be shaken up before use. Clever. One I started shaking it up before use I decided I really liked it. It's amazing how well things work when used as intended isn't it?

I'm very happy with this eye make-up remover. It removes my make-up quickly with just one wipe. I let it sink in for about a minute and then wipe gently and all my eye make-up is removed. I've found this to be very gentle on my eyes, even during hay fever season when my eyes are super sensitive.

Here's what Neutrogena has to say about their eye makeup remover: This dual-phase 100% oil-free liquid activates when shaken to gently whisk away even waterproof eye makeup without any tugging, pulling or stinging. Your skin is left feeling clean and fresh with no oily residue. Aloe and cucumber extracts soothe skin.

Would I buy this again? Yes, it's gentle, effective and reasonably priced.

Ingredients: cyclopentasiloxane, water, cyclohexasiloxane, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, benzyl alcohol, sodium chloride, dipropylene glycol, poloxamer 182, allantoin, tripotassium edta, benzalkonium chloride, glycerin, cucumber fruit extract, potassium phosphate, dipotassium phosphate.

Using Things Up

For the last ten years I've always had a lot of products waiting around to use up. That meant that I'd usually have a lot of them open and on rotation. I'd use something for a few weeks, get bored with it and open something else. Doing this meant that I rarely used anything up. This year, since I started trying to use up my skin care products and get down to my ideal stash size I've been using one or two of each product at a time. It's made a big difference in how quickly I get through things. I'm also not allowing myself to start a new product until I've used one up.

I've been really surprised at how quickly I'm using things up now that I use them exclusively. I generally go through a day cream in two months. Who would have guessed that? Face serums last about two months also and night creams last about three months. I haven't used up an eye cream yet, so I can't say how long they last, but I'd guess at about five to six months.

Cleansers last approximately two months, face scrubs four months and body lotions six weeks. Shampoo and conditioner seem to last forever and so do body scrubs and shower gels. Eye make-up removers go really quickly, in about four to five weeks.

So for all of you wondering how I use things up so quickly, that's my secret.

Now if only I could manage the same thing with my make-up.....

RoC Enydrial Lip Care

As a lip balm addict I have a whole pile of lip balms on my wish list that I can't get hold of in Australia. RoC Enydrial was one of them. It's been on my wish list for about five years now and I haven't been able to find it anywhere. To my great delight, when I emailed Leah from Addicted 2 Lip Balm to ask if she could stock them, she agreed!

If you haven't heard of Addicted 2 Lip Balm, it's lip balm addict heaven. Imagine all of the lip products that you wished you could buy in Australia, and all the products that you can buy here and you love, all in the one place. That's Addicted 2 Lip Balm. Additionally, it's the only place in Australia where you can buy RoC's Enydrial Lip Care.

Now onto RoC's Enydrial Lip Care. I've been hearing great things about this balm for years. Because of that I had pretty high expectations for this balm and I can happily say it has lived up to them.

Enydrial Lip Care isn't a fancy, pretty looking flavoured balm, it's a workhorse balm. If it was a car it'd be a ute. But that doesn't really help describe the balm does it? Enydrial Lip Care is quite amazing. It's very hydrating and is ideal for lips suffering from extreme winter dryness. I've been using this at night and I wake up with soft, smooth lips.

The texture is very rich and creamy. It feels like a lip butter, thick but not waxy or greasy. After I've put this on my lips look smooth and plump with a soft shine. As it's so rich Enydrial Lip Care lasts at least three hours before I need to reapply.

If you are looking for a fragrance and flavour free balm that is super hydrating and can be used by the whole family, this is the balm for you.

Ingredients: hydrogenated polyisobutene, polyisobutene, synthetic wax, polyglyceryl-3 diisostearate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, disteardimonium hectorite, tocopheryl acetate, lauroyl lysine, hydrated silica, alcohol, bisabolol.

I'm having a love affair

And Mr GQ knows all about it. In fact sometimes he even joins in. Don't panic, I'm not cheating on Mr GQ. I'm having a love affair with In Essence products. They're amazing!
It all started a few months ago. I needed a new candle so was browsing around the shops looking for something different. I noticed In Essence had a gwp and naturally had to take a closer look. My friend Music had told me that she loves In Essence products and when I smelled their Blissful Body Bar (soap) and Tahitian Escape candle I had to buy them.
The gwp was amazing. It contained a full size body scrub, grapefruit essential oil and hand cream and a travel size shower gel and monoi body lotion.

I've since purchased twice more from In Essence and got an amazing gwp both times. In Essence seem to have constant gwp's which is brilliant.

My second purchase was Tahitian Escape mood reeds and two Blissful Body Bar's. I'm obsessed with the Blissful Body Bar. It smells heavenly. I wish they made it in a perfume and essential oil.

The second gwp contained a full sized hand cream, body balm and neroli essential oil plus a travel sized monoi oil body lotion.

The product that tipped my obsession over the edge into full blown addiction was the Ultra Rich Body Balm. This stuff smells amazing! The fragrance is a beautiful mix of neroli, grapefruit, lavender, mimosa flowers and apricots. It has become my new favourite rich winter body lotion.

My third purchase from In Essence was the electric oil burner. I wish I'd bought this sooner, it's such a brilliant idea. For some reason I didn't take a photo of the gwp that I got when I bought the oil burner so I can't tell you exactly what was in it but I do remember it contained a full sized bath oil and a travel sized monoi body lotion.

Samples I've been trialling

I've been using a few samples lately and thought I'd do mini reviews of them. I don't want to do full reviews as I haven't been using the products long enough.

Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturiser: I really liked this, it was hydrating enough that I didn't need moisturiser underneath and it made my skin look radiant. I'm planning on buying this.

Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation: This was nice but quite sheer. I find it very similar to the Bourjois Ten Hour Sleep Effect foundation.

Ojon Restoraitve Hair Treatment: I used this once, it smells amazing and made my hair feel lovely. I didn't love it enough to buy a full sized one though.

Elixia Tinted Multi-V Moisturiser: This was lovely, I'd buy a full sized one if the price was right. It's light so doesn't give a lot of colour but it feels really nice on my skin. I still have to wear a moisturiser underneath it.

Elixia Nourishing Antioxidant Serum: This is really nice. It's moisturising enough that I can wear it without moisturiser over the top and it feels lovely on my skin.

Jurlique Daily Exfoliating Cream: I don't understand how this is supposed to work. Jurlique says that you for a smooth paste with it and then apply the paste to your face with a press and release motion. I did that and ended up with clumps of product all over my face. It didn't exfoliate or do anything. Maybe I wasn't using it properly?

Nivea Touch of Happiness Body Lotion

I've turned into a huge Nivea fan since they revamped a lot of their products. I've always used and loved their products, but now I love them even more. The new body lotion bottles look so sleek and cute. Packaging really makes a difference to me. Maybe that means I'm superficial? I like things that look nice sitting on my dressing table.

I was lucky enough to receive a bottle of Happiness Body Lotion to review. I've used it nearly every day since I received it because I love the smell. The lotion feels light but is very moisturising. It's been working wonders on my dry, winter skin.

Nivea says: Touch of Happiness body lotions moisturises and cares for you skin, leaving it with a beautiful mild scent of orange flower. This gorgeous silky textured lotion is enriched with natural bambooo extracts and milk proteins, provides fast absorbing moisturisation and a feel good sensation for your skin all day long.

Would I buy this? Yes, it's a lovely, effective moisturiser that smells amazing.

Ingredients: aqua, glycerin, caprylic/capric triglyceride, myristyl myristate, alcohol denat, blyceryl stearate citrate, glyceryl glucoside, dimethicone, octyldodecanol, hydrolyzed milk protein, babmusa vulgaris shoot extract, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, sodium carbomer, cetearyl alcohol, sorbitan stearate, xanthan gum, methylparaben, phenoxyethanol, propylparaben, limonene, linalool, butylphenyl methylpropional, citronellol, alpha-isomethyl ionone, geraniol, parfum.
